Ivan Gil-Ortega (Guest)

Ivan Gil-Ortega was born in Madrid, Spain. He received his training at ballet school "Joan Magrinya" Barcelona, Ballet School Gran Teatre Del Liceu Barcelona and Ballet School of Carmen Roche, Madrid.

In 1995 he joined Stuttgart Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet. He joined Deutsche Oper Berlin as soloist in 1996, returning to Stuttgart Ballet as soloist in 1997. In 2001 he was promoted to principal dancer. He left Stuttgart again in 2007 to join Het National Ballet as a principal dancer.

He has danced Prince Siegfried and magician Rothbart in Swan Lake, Petrucchio and Lucentio in The Taming of the Shrew (cranko), Count Paris and Mercutio in Romeo and Juliet (Cranko), the officer in The Lady and The Fool (Cranko), Basilio and Espada in Don Quijote (Guerra), Colas in La Fille Mal Gardeé (Frederick Ashton), Des Grieux and Gaston in The Lady of the Camellias (Neumeier), the Prince of East and Carabosse in The Sleeping Beauty (Haydeé) and Eugene Onegin in Onegin (Cranko). 

His repertoire also includes leading roles in choreographies by Hans Van Manen, Uwe Scholtz, David Bintley, Jerome Robbins, George Balanchine, Mauro Bigonzetti, Nicolo Fonte and Christian Spuck.

Since the end of 2007 Gil-Ortega has worked as a freelance dancer, performing as a guest artist with companies such as Ballet de Santiago de Chile, Maggio Danza Company and the National Ballet of Croatia. He has also worked as an assistant of Christian Spuk, resident choreographer at Stuttgart Ballet, and an assistant of Goyo Montero, director from Nürenberg Ballet.
