Abigail Smith attended The Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School (VCASS) as a full time dance student from 2007. During her time at VCASS, Abigail worked with Australian choreographers such as Jonathan Taylor, Timothy Harbor and Barbarra Warren-Smith. For her last season at VCASS, she performed the lead role as Titania in the classical ballet adaption of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream. After graduating in 2010, she was accepted as an ‘Advanced Standing’ student to the West Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) where she completed her Advanced Diploma of Performing Arts (Dance).
Whilst studying at WAAPA, Abigail was given the opportunity to perform at the Commonwealth Heads Of Government Meeting in Perth before the Queen of England. She performed the lead role as Waltz Lady in Balanchine’s Serenade in WAAPA’s Summer Dance season in November 2011, which was tutored and directed by Eve Lawson (representative from Balanchine Trust).
Abigail has also performed once before with West Australian Ballet, dancing as a corps de ballet member in Balanchine’s Serenade for their 2012 Ballet at the Quarry Season.
Abigail is looking forward to dancing as a Young Artist with WAB and hopes to gain as much from this opportunity as possible.
