New dancers debut at the Quarry
West Australian Ballet is excited to welcome its new dancers in 2010. Artists Robert Mills, Claire Hill, Yu Takayama and Andre Santos, and Young Artists Chloe Henderson and William Banks will all make their debut at Ballet at the Quarry, opening on Friday 12 February.
To get to know them, we started by asking how long they have been dancing and what they love to do during the summer months in Perth...
Name: Robert Mills (pictured) Started dancing: at the age of four, in Sydney Favourite thing to do in Perth in summer: going to the beach - Scarborough and City Beach are his favourites so far!
Name: Claire Hill (pictured) Started dancing: at the age of eleven, although she had been doing gymnastics for the ten years before Favourite thing to do in Perth in summer: spending time in her friend's pool and planting herbs in the garden. Claire is just happy to be home with her mum after spending eight years working overseas.
Name: Yu Takayama Started dancing: at the age of six in Japan Favourite thing to do in Perth in summer: Yu loves having a pool and being able to lounge around it
Name: Andre Santos Started dancing: at the age of nine at a not-so-good school, then got a scholarship to Pavilhao D School of Dance in Brazil Favourite thing to do in Perth in summer: going to the beach
Name: William Banks Started dancing: at the age of twelve at Balcatta Senior High School in the special dance program Favourite thing to do in Perth in summer: going to the gym and shopping
