West Australian Ballet presents the ballet classic Giselle – a stunning production from the Royal New Zealand Ballet, restaged

Love, romance, passion, betrayal and forgiveness! All this and more as West Australian Ballet brings to life the most romantic of all classical ballets.

This lavish production will delight ballet lovers of all ages with its sumptuous set and costumes (courtesy of Royal New Zealand Ballet) and sublime choreography from Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot – restaged for West Australian Ballet by Artistic Director Ivan Cavallari and Sherilyn Kennedy.

Giselle is a simple village maiden who falls in love with the deceitful nobleman, Albrecht, who is secretly betrothed to another woman. When Giselle finds out, she dies of a broken heart and joins the ranks of the Wilis: abandoned brides who rise from the grave to prey on the men who have wronged them.

However, even in death Giselle’s love for Albrecht remains, and she is able to protect him from the Queen of the Wilis. She forgives him and they pledge their undying love for one another, although separated.

The received an ecstatic ovation from a packed house – and not only at the end.” Sunday Star Times (of the Royal New Zealand Ballet production)

2009 heralds a new era for West Australian Ballet as the company brings its performing troupe up to 32+ dancers. This augmented ensemble will enable them to bring audiences many more of the great ballet classics. Giselle is just the first!

Suitable for the whole family, with special Family-Friendly 6.30pm twilight performances 21 & 28 April and 2.00pm matinees 25 April and 2 May. Wednesday–Saturday evening performances commence at 7.30pm.

Giselle will be performed with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Myron Romanul.

Giselle opens at His Majesty’s Theatre on 17 April and runs until 2 May 2009. Tickets $20 - $96. Bookings through BOCS Ticketing on (08) 9484 1133, www.bocsticketing.com.au.
