West Australian Ballet presents the next generation of exciting choreographers at the Fly by Night Club.

West Australian Ballet's Genesis takes place once every two years, and is the Company dancers' opportunity to create their own dynamic short works.  Previous sell-out audiences have enjoyed an impressive array of both contemporary and classical dance, with many pieces since restaged at West Australian Ballet's popular Ballet at the Quarry season.

"The excitement and exhilaration emanating from the strong, fearless dancers of the West Australian Ballet knock you for six"  The Australian (Genesis 2007)

This is the first time West Australian Ballet has performed at the Fly by Night Club in Fremantle, but the venue provides an ideal setting for presenting what is often an eclectic assortment of choreography.  Dancers are free to experiment with and perform different styles of dance.  It is an exciting and intensely creative time for the Company.

Choreographers for 2009 include Leading Artist Jayne Smeulders, whose work has previously been selected for Ballet at the Quarry, dancers Mathias Deneux, Meg Parry, David Mack, Emma Sandall and Joseph Simon. Ballet Mistress Eva Zmekova will choreograph for the first time with West Australian Ballet.

Timothy O'Donnell, recent winner of the international Genesis competition hosted by Milwaukee Ballet, will also be choreographing, along with Cass Mortimer Eipper.  Both had their choreography featured in the most recent Ballet at the Quarry season in 2009.

Mortimer Eipper says, "I think that Genesis will be a big surprise for the public. They will see how exceptionally creative West Australian Ballet's dancers truly are!"

Genesis will be performed Thursday 13, Friday 14 and Saturday 15 August 2009 at the Fly by Night Club.  Patrons can purchase tickets through http://www.flybynight.org/ or by calling 9430 5976.

Tickets $28 - $35.
